SUPARE is targeted at the delivery of drugs for diseases for which the present treatment and aerosol delivery systems are inadequate. These agents include surfactants, antibiotics, mucokinetics, anticancer agents, DNA and RNA viral vectors, immunoglobins, antisense, oligonucleotides and interference RNA. In many cases, milligram rather than micograms are required to be deposited within the respiratory tract. Many of these agents are difficult to aerosolize as a respirable aerosol without degradation. Also, poor patient coordination can reduce the efficiency of the delivery of the drug to the respiratory tract. For instance, surfactant is notoriously difficult to aerosolize. Some antibiotics require over an hour of adminstration per day, SUPRAER was developed to deliver such aerosols in 10 minutes per day. SUPRAER specifically addresses these largely unmet needs. The dose rate of the respirable aerosol delivered is 2 to 10 times that of present aerosol delivery systems.
