BioTechPlex's Ciliascope ™ is an epi-illumination inverted microscope specifically designed for the real-time measurement of ciliary beat frequency (CBF) and metachronal wave frequency (MWF). Ciliascope™ uses non-stationary signal analysis to measure, display and record CBF and MWF as the experiment is being performed .
Ciliascope™ will measure CBF and MWF in as little as 1 second and 4 seconds, respectively, on:
- Native ciliated epithelium
- Air-liquid interface cultures
- Primary and secondary ciliated cell cultures
- Excised ciliated tissues
- Biopsies
Ciliascope™ is applicable for ciliary research of any living tissue or organism from which ciliated cells can be excised or grown in culture, including:
- Tracheal and bronchial airways
- Nasal passages
- Fallopian tubes
- Brain ependymal cells
- Non-eukaryotic and eukaryotic organisms
The complete Ciliascope™ system includes an inverted microscope, laser scattering system, microscope heated stage, computer, as well as acquisition and analysis software.
